Modern Toss vs. EastEnders

~ ~

The Guardian presents an amusing celebration of the 25th anniversary of British soap EastEnders via the eyes of comic artists Modern Toss. Tour the square. Take a tongue-in-cheek behind the scenes look at shoots. It’s all in fun, and beside personal interest in the program, the collected material is a unique and playful piece of graphic design.

Gossel takes images or people of pop culture and mix them into a callage. I see likenesses of Lichtenstein and Warhol in here with a more organized messy style.

I hate to love..._by -USPL-

~ ~
I hate to admit it...but i love public transport.

It’s not the fact that it is smelly or stuffy, heavens no. It is based on the fact that ever since i started using public transport i instantly noticed the forcing together of people, somewhat like sardines in a can. People become so confined that they are forced to interact with one another in some way or another whether they like it or not.

Rush hour; Every morning and evening i find myself getting court, no matter how hard i try to avoid it. I push my way onto a packed train just to get to and from work on time and am somehow forced to acknowledge the gentleman or the lady in front of me and they too me. In a city as large as this one, it is nice to say hello to someone you don’t know, without it being forced, but purely because you can.

As Londoners, we have become the nation of many races whereby your neighbour would hurry past without even looking at you. I believe that ‘Adrian Forty’ had it right all along. Cities are places full of people who do not and never expect to know each other, and he explored ways at how he could express this architecturally. The thought of designing structures that adopt the principles of public transport by bringing people together and allowing them to acknowledge each other would be a great idea.

One of my favourite restaurants adopts this approach by arranging the seating so that, every time you go there you will sit next to a person or people you do not know and can choose to acknowledge them or not. The fact of the matter is that you have that option.

As Suli Breaks, a London based poet and also a good friend of mine once said in his poem labelled ‘cuz i had a dream’ that although we are so many different cultures we are all one nation.

-A Deadline Story- from -Urban Space Project London- on Vimeo.

Do you ever get those days when you have an assignment or work based hand in the following morning and have to some how manage to stay awake to get the work finished as you are not even half way done. Somehow slipping into the void of insanity, happiness, sadness, excitement and rage???

This video represents the trials of the night before the morning that inevitably comes and eventually drifting you off into nothingness.

Tiger Woods Vanity Fair Cover

~ ~

I saw this the other day and thought it was hilllarious! My bad did i miss the memo. How the hell did geeky golf pro Tiger woods turn into a sex god ha ha ha. This is Tiger Woods' Vanity Fair Cover by Annie Leibovitz. The issue (available from Wednesday, January 6, 2010 ) features pictures of Tiger showing off his muscles while pumping iron. The cover story reads: Tiger in the Rough.

If you are like myself and can not play any of the Tiger Woods' golfing games around your mother anymore in fear of a half naked woman running around somewhere in the background, its fine...you are not alone.

13th Witness is a dope ass cinematographer who has previously done some stuff for nike. His work is home, real and to me catches the real element of urban sports. I will deffo be posting some more of this guys stuff up so stay tuned.

13th Witness:

"I don't intend for this to be viewed as just another skate video. I think we tend to forget and lose ourselves in a word filled with competition, money and politics.

It's not about tripods, rails, or half pipes. nor is it about trying to cram as many tricks into a clip as you can.

This is Beyond that.

This takes it back to the Basics, the reason we all started to do what we do.

For the love of what we do, because it's a passion, and to put it quite simply, for fun.

This video is meant to take you on a Visual Journey.

My Interpretation of a place i once called Home myself.

CSD Archtecten

~ ~

Saw this place and thought it was dope. This is a house in a narrow street in the Center of Antwerp(Belgium). The home was designed and built by the the clients themselves (Joep & Debie), and also formed the Architectural practice CSD Archtecten. The house is very small spanning only 50 sqm (4 x 12.5 meters). The house has a basement, ground floor, 4 split-levels and a roof terrace. The split-levels are designed to bring the light from the south through the house. In my opinion they really optimized every room. They also designed most of the interiors within the building themselves, yes people that means the kitchen, library, wardrobes etc.

Table&Tennis designed by Ryan Vanderbilt

~ ~

Table&Tennis designed by Ryan Vanderbilt is a ping-pong-spec conference/dining table that easily changes from one to the other. A nice conference table turns into a ping pong table when needed, who wouldnt love it. If im honest this would have been a great addition to the architectural practice i was working at in central london some time back.

So if you are like myself and do not want to be in a position of looking back on your life and regret not having a table like this one at board meetings, to somewhat lighten the tense atmosphere with apprehensive clients, you can get one by contacting ryan.vanderbilt@gmail.com for more info.. Only if i could turn back the hands of time :(...only if

I like the photography style on these two pictures. Although monochrome is nothing to write home about, USPL believe that any half decent looking woman wearing a pare of geeky specks is hot.
